Today I was watching “Around the Horn on ESPN” and they were talking about various sporting events coming up such as the Super Bowl and the big Duke and Wake Forest basketball game. Then they came to the Australian Open which is extremely hot there right now because in Australia it is there summer.
The announcers were talking about how hot it was and on the tennis courts it can get extremely hot and almost unbarable. At the tennis open they had to close the roof to cool down the court in the middle of Serena Williams match. She was very upset and said that this took her mentally out of the game. And the announcers did not agree with her and did not have very good things to say about her. They said that, “Tennis players are always complaining.” But the reason that the people had to close the roof because three players had been treated for heat exhaustian so it made perfect sense to stop the match. People can die of heat and Serena needs to realize things just happen. You can not help mother nature.
Serena had lost the match and blamed it on the interruption of the match. Personally she needs to get over it because you need to just get your head in the game regardless of what is going on!!

On saturday the women’s played the University of San Diego at home. I have never been to a girl’s game and have not seen girl’s basketball game in a long time so I forgot how much slower the game is. Saint Mary’s was up the entire time and they were playing extremely well together but somewhere in the middle of the second half they started become sloppy and lazy. Also I noticed the girls were not in the best shape and became really tired. USD started catching up and getting in the groove of things while SMC could not buy a basket if they wanted to. The game started to get really intense and girls were fouling out because I think they were frustrated.
The game went into overtime beause USD finally tied the game and SMC did not have another chance to score. The first overtime was pretty exciting but then it went into the second overtime which the crowd was going crazy. I have to say this was the most exciting game I have seen in a while because it was back and forth. But then in the end SMC came out on top and won an exciting game. It was really exciting because SMC was the underdog but they played exceptionally well.

Have you ever been to a cheer competition? If not, imagine 200 cheerleaders running around, nervous, loud, and mother’s talking about who is good and who is bad. Cheerleading competitions are foreign to me because I was never a cheer girl because I would have been disowned from my father…not really disowned but my family is all about sports. Well my cousin is a cheerleader for my old highschool and my sister-in-law is the cheer coach so I decided I would be a nice and go. Well big mistake because I ended up with a headache with all the girls screaming and the loud music. I am not dissing the sport of cheerleading nor making fun of it but its just not a place where I want to go again. Also it was neat that cousins team did win first place which is a very common thing for them. The girls were all together and stuck every stunt which to me means your good and you could possibly win. I dont know much about cheerleading but I do give credit to all the girls who do it because I could never stay in rhythm like they do. All in all it wasnt completely horrible because Washington High School won first place!!!

Since the beginning of Jan Term my townhouse has been watching ESPN a lot. But one night I had turned it on and the Winter X games happened to be on. I love Winter X games! I think the snowboarders and skiers are incredibly talented.
The Winter X games was being held in Aspen, Colorado and if you have ever been to this mountain you know how awesome it is. Colorado is known for their great snow and moutains…come on it’s the Rockies!! The event I happened to watch was the downhill men’s skiing which is my favorite event to watch. I think its unbelievable how fast and athletic the skiers are.
The whole time I thought the X games were current and then realized after I watched it was from last year. Now I am getting excited for the upcoming games at the end of this month.
